It's been hot all summer, really stinking hot. But the garden has loved it. We actually have a garden. For the past three years we have had a grasshopper all-you-can-eat buffet. They have even eaten the garlic chives and sage down to the ground. Along with (waves arms in a huge circular motion) all this, it's been less than inspiring.

Herbed pork ribs
What is it about ribs that inspires such devotion? It's a big hunk of bones and fat with just a soup-spoon of meat. I have sometimes ordered them at barbecue places and definitely enjoyed them. I do love most any opportunity to eat with my fingers.
Recently I was gifted with a couple of huge packages of pork ribs by a dear friend. I make no secret of loving to learn and try new things. I struggle with the "shoulds" of being an artist - you should produce a coherent body of work - being the number one thing I struggle with. Perhaps it's a side affect of becoming an artist from brain injury, but I get enchanted with the process of teaching myself how. And then Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-58203661174088758932016-05-30T21:59:00.001-06:002016-05-30T21:59:46.156-06:00Homunculi and other arcane things
To combat some burn-out, I took a class last year from the amazing Leighanna Light. (Here is her website if you want to see her work. She is awesome. http://www.leighannalight.com/)
The class was about something else entirely but we used metal tins and stuff to make a figurative sculpture. It was neat but frustrating to me as I missed my metal working tools where Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-70452247541681557132015-10-25T15:29:00.001-06:002015-10-25T15:54:03.958-06:00
Wow. Damn. I was going to pay attention this year.
I was going to get to the Farmers Market so I could eat in season. My plan was to gorge on what ever was in season so I would be sick of it until it came back into season. I was going to get my garden into shape. I did get a lot of the hardscaping done but not many seeds planted. So half of a win there. &Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-35072212175241641502015-01-27T07:00:00.000-07:002015-01-27T09:44:09.338-07:00Lavender Valentine's Day gift to make!
A sweet pile of lavender goodness!
One of the nicknames for the town we live in is the "Sweetheart City" so Valentine's Day is a big deal for us. We have a lot of amazing celebrations and so much fun! After sort of ignoring Valentine's Day for most of my life, it's starting to grow on me.
I got inspired to make this fun heart centered gift by a pile of linen scraps, an extra Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-68196458902722871742015-01-18T18:40:00.001-07:002015-01-18T18:40:24.747-07:00Saving herbs for the winter, a bit late but remember this for next year!
I had started the photo set for this, then got sidetracked with life. Sorry it's not something timely but I really needed to look at green stuff today and think about herbs. You know, it feels like it's been so gray and icy this winter, my bones are sore and cold.
Lots of folks grow herbs during the summer, we revel in fresh herbs! Then is the winter we have to make do Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-46876120767444040362015-01-09T18:33:00.001-07:002015-01-09T18:33:04.467-07:00Natural dyeing with poinsettias
Poinsettia petals are actually specialized leaves. The flowers are tiny.
The trappings of the Holiday Season, once over, become very cheap. Talk to your favorite greenhouse and tell them what you want to do, I bet they will be glad to hear you want their uglies or leftovers. Or see if you can just have the tops, that's all you really need.

Vibrant! Exciting! Beautiful!
My friend Kathy, http://awanderingbotanist.com/, gets all sorts of great ideas.
She is constantly researching and had read a single throw-away line on a book. It went something like "The Aztecs used poinsettias for red dye."
Thus the madness begins.

I am in awe of bloggers who can crank it out on schedule month after month.
I am almost always thinking about things, mulling them over in my head and the images/words never seem to stop. But getting to the keyboard and out is another thing.
I am trying to get over the "hump" of having not written regularly in a while but just starting to write. I'll start with the weather and seeSheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-82128181591650732752014-04-03T17:29:00.000-06:002014-04-03T17:29:58.231-06:00Best breakfast thing ever!
So good!
Good things often are a collaboration. This breakfast/lunch/snack bit of yumminess is one of those things.
Some friends of mine started out with a recipe and called it "Fat Bombs". Mostly created of various healthy fats with a sprinkling of nuts, I saw a bag of them in thier fridge and thought they were pralines. They were not at all that. I was sad.

I've been really swamped with work so this blog has been written mostly after midnight when I can't work any more! I hope it makes sense, I think it's a tad repeaty as it's been written in tiny little chunks. But I just previewed it and I think it's okay. But it's after midnight, what do I know.

One of my New Year's Resolutions this year was: More Sizzle, Less Work!!!
What does that mean? It means that we work crazy hard on all sorts of things but the one thing we often don't do is share all the cool stuff behind the work we are creating. So my goal is to get our light out from under the basket and let folks know what we are doing.
I have the opportunity to Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-54207339174241984182014-01-16T11:35:00.001-07:002014-01-16T11:35:10.079-07:00Amazing inspiring artist!

I can't wait until the dust settles a bit and I can get back to my studio.
This "4 Months of Fully Involved" is about over. I am eager to get my life back, but have had a tremendously fun/exhausting/inspiring time.
I am so focused on the concept that I am not busy, I am fully involved with my life. So much time is Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-19856909124353384752013-11-03T12:16:00.001-07:002013-11-03T12:16:56.082-07:00Scarf ideas Youtube video

The weekend before the studio tour was the Mini-Makers Faire in Loveland. It was great! There were an amazing collection of Makers both art and technology. Over 3000 people bought tickets! Horrified, I stood rooted to the floor in the grocery store pointing at a large plastic tub of "Homestyle Mashed Potatoes". The other shoppers made a wide detour around, carefully not making eye contact. My husband came along and quietly moved me away murmuring soothing words. The picture of the fluffy mounds of white potatoes drenched in butter were just too perfect. Today the skies are gray, it's in the 50's and misting.
The potatoes are ready to harvest and the basil is still pumping out it's leaves of yumminess.
It's time to make one of my favorite fall recipes - Pesto Potatoes!
I make pesto without garlic and mostly by feel so there won't be a lot of measurements. I like the rustic nature of just dumping in this and that, it's pretty Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-78602435030885485222013-08-24T15:49:00.001-06:002013-08-27T20:31:54.329-06:00August
Sorry to have been so quiet this month.
I am sick. I'm not sure what it is as all the tests we have run up to this point have been negative.
But yet, I am having trouble keeping food around long enough to get much nutrition. Let's just leave it at that. You really don't want the sordid details.
We are taking very good care of me, making sure I am getting the water and Sheron Buchele Rowlandhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03563962252969628463noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2616825052646275582.post-49600458331824309982013-07-22T11:31:00.000-06:002013-07-22T11:33:45.271-06:00Clafoutis! Summer Fruit and Yum!Summer, ah summer.
I have such a love/hate relationship with it. I suffer from the heat in sort of a melty ice-cream cone sort of way. I attempt to bear up, but my energy and gumption sort of run down the back of my legs.
Mostly I just want to sprawl out under the ceiling fan with a brain-dead book and drink cold drinks. Bare feet that are warm are just weird.

The truck has been cleaned out. (Thanks Anne!) Whew. That was interesting. I expected more glass and much less kapok/stuffing filled with mouse poop. And dirt, many inches of dirt.
Here is a link the the Loveland Feed & Grain Facebook page where I have a photo album of the cleaning process.
